The Database

After all core sections have been processed and the samples stored in the freezer, you will need to enter the data from your data sheets into the Core Log Database. We currently store this data in a Microsoft Access database. You can locate the file by its extension -- mdb. When you open the record, this is roughly what you will see. Entering the data

The Core ID field is for the TDI name of the core. If the client has a different naming protocol, enter it into the Client ID field. In the General Information section, select the client name from the Company field and enter the job number. The date and time will be filled out automatically. In the Core Information section, Enter the deepest section of the core, then click the mouse outside the box. The section numbers at the bottom of this section should fill in automatically. Make any corrections if your sections are different. If any of the sections contained oil, hydrogen sulfide, gas fractures or gas cuts, check the appropriate box. Enter the azide blank used for that core. The position and depth information must be provided by the navigators, and client requirements are different for each job. Ask your party chief how he wants you to handle these areas. Enter the initials of the techs into the recorded and cut by section. In the core description page, enter all the notes from your core description. Be sure to include the presence of hydrates, anything unusual caught in the cutter and descriptions of any objects: shells, wood, chunks of carbonate or hard matter, gas or water pockets. If you conducted minivane testing on the bottom of the archive section, enter the information from your readings in the core description field. Be sure to include the number off the top of the minivane spring set. (The set number is stamped on the top of each spring) The calibrations are slightly different for each set. This is why we always use the same set of springs for the duration of each job.
